YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY

CATEGORISATION OF ONLINE RISKS

Content Risks, Contact Risks, Conduct Risks and Contract Risks

A comprehensive classification of online risk was proposed by the EU back in 2009 and whilst it was originally developed for a safer internet for children the principles equally apply for consideration by adults in assessing online risks for themselves and their loved ones.

By assessing and considering potential risks you can take a balanced view of the range of risks that can be encountered online and learn how to safeguard against them. So to identify potential risks consider:

♦ Where do you go online and what do you see?

♦ What do you do online?

♦ Who are you engaging with?

♦ Who are you doing business with?

Whilst software can protect against some threats the most important tool is knowledge so be aware and be vigilant to ensure you can safely experience the joys and opportunities of the online world.
